The AIDA Presidential Council Conference – 7-8 September 2011 –
Hilton Hotel Tel Aviv
The annual conference of AIDA Israel took place on Thursday, 8 September 2011, at the Hilton Hotel in Tel Aviv. This year, for the first time, the conference was attended by the AIDA International Presidential Council members, including its president, Mr. Michael Gill of Australia.
The conference was organized by Adv. Peggy Sharon, a member of the AIDA International Presidential Council, who convinced the Presidential Council to hold the conference in Israel. Over 30 attendees from South America, Australia, Japan, Turkey, Morocco, Greece, UK, Finland and 120 from Israel attended and enjoyed the conference.
The International Conference began on 7th September 2011 and included a meeting of the working party of the Climate Changes in the scope of which discussions were held on the problems relating to climate change and environmental hazards.
The Panel, chaired by Tim Hardy from England included the following lectures:
* A lecture by Adv. Sharon Shefer on Environmental Exposure - The Insurance Aspects from the Israeli Perspective
* A lecture by Dr. Adv. Maria Silvia Moron Kavanagh on the variable impact of Climate Change/extreme weather events upon existing covers in different countries/regions and measures adopted by insurers and others in response
* A lecture by Prof. Sara Landini, Italy on Insurance and Environmental Securities
* A lecture by Prof Marcel Fontaine, Belgium on “Climate Change or Global Warming?”
Following the working party, a meeting of the AIDA Europe Committee took place regarding the next AIDA Europe meeting in London in 2012.
At the end of the first day of the conference, the visitors enjoyed an evening at a Sing-along Club at the Ganki Israeli Club with the famous singer Eynat Saruf.
On Thursday, 8th September 2011 the AIDA Presidential Council held its meeting discussing the elements of how to have a successful AIDA chapter, presented by various speakers.
Following a Coffee Break, the Reinsurance Working Party met, chaired by Colin Croly from England, in which Dr. Shahar Weller lectured on Arbitration Clauses in Reinsurance Contracts.
Also the Consumer Protection and Dispute Resolution and Distribution of Insurance Products Working Parties held a Joint Session, chaired by Ioannis Rokas, Greece and Samim Unan, Turkey. At the joint session, the following lectures were given:
** Broker or Agent - The Legal Status of the Insurance Intermediary Under Israeli Law - Adv. Yoran Gill
** Consumer protection towards Intermediaries - A European perspective - Adv. Luis Filipe Caldas
** The Insurance Agent under Israeli Law - Adv. Tammy Greenberg
** The liability regime of the insurance intermediaries liabilities towards consumers according to Turkish law - A comparison to EU Law - Dr. Samim Unan
Following lunch, the AIDA Israel Conference took place. Opening words were given by the president of AIDA Israel and greetings were given by Levi Rachmani Chairman and CEO of Ayalon Group.

* A Panel was held on Comparative Review of Reforms to Insurance Law Worldwide, including the following lectures:

** Australia – Adv. Michael Gill, President of AIDA: Insurance Issues and Reforms in Australia .
** Bolivia – Adv. Sandra Ramirez: Insurance Issues and Reforms in Bolivia
** France - Prof. Jerome Kullmann: Duty of Disclosure and the Understanding
** Greece – Adv. Dr. Kyriaki Noussia: Presentation on nsurance Issues and Reforms in Greece
** Spain – Adv. Jorge Angell: Large Risks v. Mass Risks and Expected Law Reforms
** Switzerland – Adv. Christian Lang: Review of Reforms to Insurance
** UK – Prof. Rob Merkin – UK Insurance Law Reform
Following a coffee break, the following lectures were given:
* Justice Dr. Michal Agmon Gonen: “Insurance Class Actions”
* Ron Stein, Globes Magazine: “The Insurance Industry in the Eyes of the Press”
* Adv. A. Rotman: “Dismissal of Health Fund claim against Tobacco Companies”
Following the conference, a festive dinner was held at the Kimmel Restaurant which was opened with greetings by Mr. Ilan Beck, Chairman and CEO of AON Israel.
